About Aequitas
Aequitas is the Latin word for equity, fairness, and justice—principles that have long stood at the foundation of sound economic thought and responsible public policy. The Aequitas Journal of Economics was founded with this ideal in mind: to promote economic inquiry among the next generation of scholars.
The journal is an independent, entirely student-run publication dedicated to publishing original research and policy analysis by high school and undergraduate students. It was created in response to the growing interest in economics among students, and the relative lack of accessible platforms where young researchers can present serious work. Generally, economic research requires more complicated mathematical and statistical methods than the other social sciences, leading to increased barriers of entry into the research sphere.
Aequitas seeks to provide pre-university and university scholars with an opportunity to engage deeply with economic theory, empirical methods, and real-world policy questions. The journal emphasizes analytical clarity, methodological rigor, and fairness in evaluation, prioritizing careful reasoning and evidence over advocacy or opinion.
The journal accepts work across a wide range of economic subfields, including applied microeconomics, macroeconomic analysis, public policy, development economics, political economy, and economic history, and more. Submissions may be theoretical, empirical, or policy-focused, provided they demonstrate disciplined economic reasoning and, where appropriate, responsible use of data.
All submissions undergo a structured double-blind peer review process, conducted by a selective editorial board of students with strong backgrounds in economics and related quantitative fields. While the journal is advised by academic economists, editorial decisions remain fully student-led, reinforcing its commitment to independent scholarly inquiry.
The mission of the Aequitas Journal of Economics is to foster rigorous economic research among students and to elevate pre-university scholarship toward the standards of professional academic discourse, preparing contributors for further study and engagement in economics, public policy, and related fields.
